Starting Pay: $19.41/hour
Essential Job Functions:
Under the general direction of the Safety Manager, this position performs six month asbestos surveillances, building safety walks for middle and elementary schools, assists in training and injury investigations, coordinates asbestos abatement operations, maintenance projects, other environmental inspections and assessments such as IAQ and hazardous materials within the district; works with abatement contractors, third party monitoring consultants, architects, engineers, designers and various district Facilities departments; observes or performs OSHA air monitoring; assists in maintaining the asbestos management program for each of the district’s buildings (including leased spaces); communicates regularly with the Safety Manager and each principal and/or building representative on upcoming projects, requirements and informational needs.
Qualifications:
• Must be at least 21 years of age and a high school graduate or equivalent
• Demonstrated excellent job performance and attendance
• Must have completed and passed 40 hours of HAZWOPER training and yearly 8-hour HAZWOPER refreshers
• Must be able to maintain confidentiality; must possess and maintain a valid Missouri driver’s license Class E
• Prefer a minimum of 3 years of experience in the asbestos industry
• Made substantial progress toward completing coursework needed to obtain the Missouri certification and license for Asbestos Building Inspector within the first 12 months of employment
• Must be able to prioritize duties in a changing environment and meet critical deadlines
• Must have a strong customer service orientation, possess excellent interpersonal and communications skills
• Ability to effectively relate to students, teachers, administration, maintenance workers, contractors, suppliers, a diverse workforce, parents and the general public on environmental issues that can be emotionally charged
• Must work in a supportive manner with building administration and staff
• Must be proficient with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and scheduling computer software (prefer Microsoft Office Suite, Google G Suite, Verdant, School Work Order System and Interneer)
• Must be able to follow instructions and be able to read, interpret and understand construction documents, including shop drawings, wiring diagrams, blueprints, technical specifications and contracts
• Must be able to pass a respirator fit test as well as be medically cleared to work around asbestos and other hazardous materials associated with this position
• Must be able to understand and communicate clearly in English – both verbally and in writing – for basic job-related duties and response to safety emergencies as well as follow verbal, written or demonstrated instruction
• Commitment to ensuring the team succeeds with all tasks, duties, and projects
• Safety background is preferred but not required

ATLAS is currently seeking an Air Monitoring / Industrial Hygiene Technician to join our St. Louis, Missouri office. Qualified candidates will have 1+ years of specific experience in at least one of the following disciplines: asbestos and lead-based paint surveys and project monitoring, microbial and IAQ investigations, industrial hygiene surveys or related field. Atlas will cross-train the successful candidate in the other service areas. The position will be responsible for the execution of asbestos/lead projects, microbial/mold assessment, indoor air quality assessment, and industrial hygiene projects.
The primary responsibilities for the successful candidate will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Conduct asbestos, lead-based paint and other hazardous material surveys,
- Provide asbestos and lead-based paint abatement monitoring,
- Collect detailed field notes and photographs to assist project managers with completing reports,
- Prepare chain of custody forms for analytical testing, recording survey data in approved forms,
- Implement Atlas’s health and safety policies and procedures,
- Travel locally and regionally to project sites using company vehicles, and
- Work off-hours and weekends periodically when required.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma with 3+ years of experience or B.S degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health and safety, public health or related field with 1+ years of experience,
- Asbestos and/or LBP certifications
- Missouri and Illinois licenses, a plus
- NIOSH 582 course completion, a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office®.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team to meet organization and project objectives.
- Technically adept, flexible, and forward thinking.
- Exhibits attention to detail, and able to work under periodic time constraints.
- Willingness to travel regionally for short periods of time.

- State of Missouri certifications for Asbestos Inspector and Lead Risk Assessor required, Asbestos Supervisor and NIOSH Air Monitoring certifications are a plus;
- Self-motivated, able to work independently, complete scheduled tasks, and/or lead a project team;
- Ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs;
- Proficiency in computer software programs, particularly MS Outlook, Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat;
- Ability to pass an annual physical examination and physician written opinion in compliance with OSHA regulations to wear and work wearing respiratory protection.
- Ability to travel;
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or related field is a plus;
